Betting Markets Explained

Every market and term used across our picks, Bold Tips and Market Tickets, in plain English.

What does '1X2' or 'Match Winner' mean?

A bet on the result at full time: Home win (1), Draw (X), or Away win (2). It's the simplest, most common football bet — you're picking one of exactly three outcomes.

What does 'Double Chance' mean?

A bet covering TWO of the three possible results in one pick — e.g. '1X' wins if the home team either wins or draws. It pays lower odds than backing a single outcome, but you only lose if the third result happens.

What does 'Draw No Bet' mean?

A bet on one team to win, with your stake refunded if the match ends in a draw. You only lose if the OTHER team wins — a draw is treated as a push, not a loss.

What does 'Handicap Result' mean?

One team gets a virtual head start or deficit applied to the final score before we settle the bet — e.g. a '-1' handicap means that team needs to win by 2+ goals for the bet to win. If the adjusted scoreline ends exactly level, it's a push and the stake is refunded.

What's different about 'Asian Handicap'?

The same idea as Handicap Result, but always set on a half-goal line (e.g. -1.5, +0.5). A half-goal can never be tied, so there's no push and no refund — every Asian Handicap bet wins or loses outright.

What does 'First Half Winner' mean?

A Match Winner bet that only counts the score at half-time, not the final result — a team can win this bet and still go on to lose (or draw) the full match, since only what's on the board after 45 minutes matters.

What does 'Over 2.5' or 'Under 2.5' goals mean?

A bet on the TOTAL goals scored by both teams combined, regardless of who wins. 'Over 2.5' wins if 3 or more goals are scored in the match; 'Under 2.5' wins if there are 2 or fewer. The .5 just rules out an exact-tie push.

What's different about 'Over/Under Goals (1st Half)'?

The same idea as Over/Under Goals, but counting only goals scored in the first 45 minutes plus stoppage time — anything scored after half-time doesn't count toward this bet.

What does 'BTTS' (Both Teams to Score) mean?

'Yes' wins if BOTH teams score at least one goal at any point in the match; 'No' wins if either team fails to score. The final scoreline and who actually wins don't matter — only whether both sides got on the scoresheet.

What does 'Odd/Even' (goals) mean?

A bet on whether the TOTAL number of goals in the match, both teams combined, is an odd or even number — a 2-1 final is odd (3 total), a 1-1 final is even (2 total). Who wins doesn't matter, only the total goal count's parity.

What does 'Correct Score' mean?

A bet on the EXACT final scoreline, e.g. '2-1'. It pays the highest odds of any market here because it's the hardest to get right — even a heavily favored team can win 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 or 3-1, and only one of those is the pick that actually wins.

What does 'HT/FT' (Half Time / Full Time) mean?

A bet on the result at HALF TIME combined with the result at FULL TIME — e.g. 'Home/Draw' only wins if the home team is ahead at half time AND the match ends in a draw. Getting both stages right usually pays much higher odds than a single Match Winner bet.

What do the odds numbers actually mean?

We show decimal odds — multiply your stake by the odds to see your total payout if the bet wins. Odds of 2.50 on a $10 stake return $25 total ($15 profit). Higher odds mean a less likely outcome with a bigger payout; lower odds mean a more likely outcome with a smaller payout.

What does the confidence percentage on a pick mean?

It's our model's own estimated probability that the pick is correct, calibrated against how similar picks have actually performed historically. It's our honest estimate, not a guarantee — even an 80% pick loses roughly 1 time in 5.

What is a 'Single Game Bet' on Bold Tips?

A Single Game Bet is our most likely pick for that match — the outcome with the highest model-estimated win probability that still clears our probability bar, shown with the best available price we found for it. Picks are ranked by probability and price, not by how much they disagree with the bookmaker's own number — there's no guaranteed edge, just our best estimate of what's most likely to happen.
