What does BTTS (Both Teams to Score) mean?

How BTTS settles

BTTS Yes wins if both teams score at least one goal. BTTS No wins if at least one team fails to score. As with goal totals, regular time counts (90 minutes plus stoppage time); extra time and penalties usually don't.

An own goal counts for the team it's credited to — if a defender of the away side puts it into their own net, the home side has scored.

BTTS is not the same as Over 2.5

The two markets often move together, but they settle differently. A 3–0 is Over 2.5 but BTTS No. A 1–1 is BTTS Yes but Under 2.5. BTTS is about both attacks finding the net; Over/Under is only about the total.

What makes BTTS Yes more or less likely

BTTS Yes needs two things at once: the home side scores and the away side scores. Teams that score in most games but also concede in most games push BTTS Yes up. A strong defence on either side, or a big gap in quality, pushes it down — a dominant favourite can win 2–0 or 3–0 without the other side ever threatening.

Because both events must happen, a BTTS probability is usually lower than either team's own chance of scoring.

Common BTTS combinations

Bookmakers also offer BTTS combined with another market — BTTS and Over 2.5, BTTS and a team to win, or BTTS in the first half. Each extra condition makes the bet harder to win and the odds higher. Combining conditions does not make a bet better value; it only changes what has to happen.
